MLB Scouting Report: Mier looks like a young Nomar

Garciaparra on the field. He’s a free swinger that should

generate a little pop as he matures. Defensively, he’s very

smooth and makes up for below-average speed with

excellent instincts that should allow him to remain at

shortstop. He has a quiet confidence on the field and his

intangibles are off the charts. He should be one of the better

high shortstops in this year’s Draft class. Watch the Scouting Video “My ultimate goal is to get out there and play.”

MLB Scouting Report: Meyer is a versatile high er who plays shortstop and catches while also closing for his team. In the future, he’s likely a third baseman or a catcher, which is just fine with him. With a great makeup and work ethic, he’s learned how to switch-hit in his senior season to increase his versatility. With a plus arm and good hands, to go along with some good raw power, a team might be interested in seeing what he can do behind the plate. And everyone knows how well catchers can be drafted. Even if he’s an infielder, his combination of skills and attitude should be attractive to many teams.

Scouting Report: BJ Hyatt never put up great numbers as far as pitching statistics go in his two years with the University of South Carolina Sumter. However, the right-hander was able to present these intangible numbers — 6 feet, 4 inches tall, 205 pounds and pitches that consistently hit 93-94 miles per hour on a speed gun — to cause Major League Baseball scouts to salivate. Posted from USC Athletics “I’m ready to get everything taken care of

and start working.”

Scouting Report: Wikoff is a lefthand-hitting shortstop who batted .373 in 228 at-bats for Illinois, with 17 doubles, five triples and four homers, 56 runs and 41 RBIs. ValleyCats’ roster starting to take shape “I don’t follow them much, mostly just whenever they play the Cardinals because I’ve been a die-hard Cardinals fan my whole life. I actually worked out for St. Louis at Busch Stadium and now I may have the opportunity to play against them with the Astros.”
