The Daily Astros Update was created as a way for me, Astros Kimm, to post my daily musings on the Houston Astros. Some of them will be rants, but for the most part, I hope that they are actually intelligent posts of my opinion on the previous game, trade or what not. (Though if we pitch to Albert Pujols again in an important game, I think I will spend the next year writing rants. I STILL haven’t recovered from that one.)
Who am I? I grew up in Houston and I live and breathe Astros baseball. I have fond memories of going to see the Astros when I was little. I would always sneak away from my parents and go to left field to watch Jose Cruz play. He is still my favorite player of all time, though I do have a special place in my heart for Bill Spiers as well. (I also grew up a Reggie Jackson fan.)
Do I like any other teams? Yes. I like the Brewers because of their uniqueness with Bernie the Brewer and the Sausage race. I used to like the Tigers because they had so many ex-Astros on the team, but that has waned of late. I also like the Tampa Bay Rays for a dumb reason (I like their colors and mascot), a sad reason (I feel bad for them) and a good reason (I see a lot of upside in their infield and I like Gerry Hunsicker).
Do I dislike any teams? Yes. The Mets (from the 80s), the Dodgers (from the 80s) and the Braves (from the 90s). I hate the Braves the most. They have the most obnoxious fans and also the most fans who jumped on the bandwagon. If you like a team, you should stick by it through thick or thin. Not just because they suddenly became popular.
